Mid sized precision defense and aerospace manufacturer with high mix, fast paced environment. Background in manual inspection required, faro and CMM experience preferred. This individual leads a team of 4-5 inspectors and has training mindset.

Title: Quality Assurance Manager Department: Quality Assurance

Reports To: talent and quality engineer Classification: Exempt

Position Summary:

Overall development, implementation and maintenance of Atlas's quality management system. Ensures QMS/IMS meets all regulations; evaluates vendors; oversees and participates in the activities of the quality team; provides feedback to production personnel regarding quality of parts produced; communicates with customers, vendors, and all departments to meet product requirements; reports metrics to top management; maintains internal auditing system.

Essential Functions:

  1. Quality Assurance: Management of the Atlas Quality IMS, Document Control, and Quality Training
    1. Define, monitor, improve, document and maintain procedures and quality system to comply with current ISO and AS standards. Train team as needed on IMS policy.
    2. Recommend and implement changes to quality manual for management approval. Coordinate, facilitate, and document management reviews and risk assessment.
    3. Monitor product quality, customer satisfaction, and supplier ratings. Recommend corrective/preventative action to address deficiencies.
    4. Maintain approved supplier list.
  2. Quality Control: Inspection (Receiving / In-Process & Final / First Article), Outside Service Prep
    1. Determine requirements for statistical techniques in production. Implement and monitor statistical techniques.
    2. Coordinate corrective action program including CAR Board, Tracking CARs and addressing appeals. Verifies and report effectiveness of actions taken
    3. Inspect material or part against each measurement as indicated on print or work order; verify acceptable tolerance. Indicate completed inspection as required.
    4. Check work orders for completion and obtain sign-offs if needed. Review and approve FAIs
    5. Communicate with shop personnel to determine questionable production and answer inspection questions as needed.
    6. Complete non-conformance forms, tags, labels, etc. when needed.
    7. Coordinate with shipping/receiving to schedule parts for outside processes and follow-up to ensure on-time delivery.
    8. Maintain and update inspection history for parts; enter part counts into inventory system.
  3. Auditing: Internal System, Process, Product, & Supplier
    1. Manage Internal Auditing system. Perform Quality audits, check product and observe processes to verify conformance of system.
  4. Customer Satisfaction: Source Inspections / Corrective Actions / Customer Surveys
    1. Monitor non-conforming product and determine disposition of non-conforming product. Implement corrective action as needed for non-conforming product. Maintain non-conforming material historical file; track recurring non-conformances
    2. Communicate with customer/management to resolve and provide updates on non-conforming product. Apply for formal deviations as needed.
    3. Coordinate and facilitate customer required source inspections
    4. Complete yearly Atlas customer survey. Respond to customer survey requests.
  5. Overall Management of the Quality Team and Departmental Duties & Responsibilities
    1. Manage inspection department activities and inspection activities of all production personnel.
    2. Manage calibration activities of all equipment and tools that are used to monitor part specification
    3. Organize and complete employee reviews for inspection department personnel.
    4. Identify and work to decrease non-value added tasks; identify and eliminate departmental waste
  6. General
    1. Authority to request stop of production activity when warranted.
    2. Return all equipment, parts, etc. to proper storage areas in order to maintain an organized, clean work area.
    3. Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instruction.
    4. Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with position.
    5. Participate in activities to increase personal skill level, overall departmental processes and product quality.
    6. Maintain meet or exceed rating on performance evaluations.
    7. Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others.
    8. Comply with all company policies and procedures including safety and attendance requirements.
    9. Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Skills & Abilities

  1. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and min. two years related experience and/or training.
  2. Effective communication skills to speak and write accurately and persuasively; give and receive clarification and respond to questions.
  3. Leadership and delegation skills to assign tasks and authorize responsibility; provide feedback and provide recognition to develop and foster teamwork.
  4. Ability to manage time effectively, organize self and others, perform work accurately and attention to detail.
  1. Possess a strong mechanical background.
  2. Ability to use, calibrate and maintain a variety of measuring equipment including gauges, thread plugs, micrometers, calipers, coordinating measuring machine, comparator, profilometer, etc.
  3. Ability to read, understand and analyze a variety of drawings, blueprints, piece prints and GDT.
  4. Advanced Math skills including calculation of fractions, distances, print conversion and trigonometry.
  5. Possess basic computer skills to operate inspection equipment and enter data.
  6. OSHA required training in Lock-out / Tag-out, Hazard Communication, PPE and Emergency Evacuation.
  7. Distinguish a variety of raw materials (stainless steel, cold rolled steel, etc.)
  8. Understand machining, cutting, stamping and forming processes of various raw materials.

Minimum Physical Requirements

  1. 20/40 vision required with or without correction.
  2. Use of hands 100% of the workday.
  3. Ability to stand or walk 100% of the workday.
  4. Ability to lift and carry 70 pounds occasionally during the workday.
  5. Twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling and leaning occasionally during the workday.
  6. Ability to work in a shop environment continuous exposure to loud noises, dust, solvents, coolants and oils.
