Title:  Quality Clerk                                                                                 Department:  Quality Assurance


Reports To:   Quality Manager                                                                       Classification:  Non-Exempt


Position Summary:                                                                       

Create, update, and file quality and inspection documents.  Perform inspection or examination of parts and materials according to specifications.  Communicate with vendors.  Provide feedback to proper personnel regarding quality of product.


Essential Functions:       

  1. Review work order and piece print or blue print.
  2. Create first article inspection reports and populate with inspection data. Balloon prints.  Prep for customer.
  3. Check work orders for completion and obtain sign-offs if needed.
  4. Review vendor certifications; communicate with vendors if missing or incorrect.
  5. Prepare certification of compliance or certification of special process.
  6. Prepare parts for outside processes and coordinate with shipping/receiving to schedule parts for outside processing.
  7. Prepare source inspection documents as requested
  8. Maintain and update computerized inspection history for parts.
  9. Receive incoming materials and parts. Check paperwork against shipment and examine to verify condition and completeness.
  10. Choose and check calibration of inspection equipment to be used; setup equipment and work holdings when necessary to inspect parts.
  11. Inspect material or part against each measurement as indicated on print, work order, or PO; verify acceptable tolerance. Indicate completed inspection as required. Report discrepancies to supervisor.
  12. Make determination as to status of part; pass or reject parts.
  13. Complete non-conformance forms, tags, labels, etc. when needed
  14. Maintain non-conforming material historical file.
  15. Authority to request stop of production activity when warranted.
  16. Communicate with shop personnel to determine questionable production and answer inspection questions as needed.
  17. Return all equipment, parts, etc. to proper storage areas.
  18. Maintain organized and clean work area.
  19. Communicate all work related information, problems and issues with supervisor.
  20. Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instruction.
  21. Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with position.
  22. Participate in activities to increase personal skill level, overall departmental processes and product quality.
  23. Maintain meet or exceed rating on performance evaluations
  24. Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others.
  25. Comply with all company policies and procedures including safety and attendance requirements
  26. Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by supervisor.


Minimum Skills & Abilities

  1. Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
  2. Ability to use measuring equipment including gauges, thread plugs, micrometers, calipers, etc.
  3. Ability to read, understand and analyze drawings, blueprints, piece prints and GDT.  
  4. Possess basic computer skills to operate inspection equipment and enter data.
  5. OSHA required training in Lock-out / Tag-out, Hazard Communication, PPE and Emergency Evacuation.
  6. Distinguish a variety of raw materials (stainless steel, cold rolled steel, etc.)                               
  7. Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.            
  8. Effective communication and team work skills.  Ability to received and understand oral and written instructions.



Minimum Physical Requirements

  1. 20/40 vision required with or without correction.
  2. Use of hands 100% of the workday.
  3. Ability to stand or walk 100% of the workday.
  4. Ability to lift  and carry 70 pounds occasionally during the workday.
  5. Twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling and leaning occasionally during the workday.
  6. Ability to work in a shop environment continuous exposure to loud noises, dust, solvents, coolants and oils.
